QR Tags have been around for a few years...even Microsoft has a dead-easy-to-use system (free) that they seem to keep buried in the back room.

Jagtag are fairly unique in that they don't require a download/app - very cool. But, what does a Tag replace? To use your camera/phone, you have to go through x # of steps, rather than what? SMS a short code? Not all that different. About the same x # of steps.

Where it does seem to get interesting is when the entire experience, starting with launching the engagement from a Tag is something new and different. Just sending through some graphics or opening up a web page is kind of retro dontcha think? I mean, just use a few key strokes to achieve the same thing. Google's use of Tags is about as dull as it gets.

Part of the intrigue of a Tag is that it is somewhat mysterious, there is no text to give away "where you are going to land." How do you continue that sense of adventure within the post-Tag experience? Or, at events, where multi-Tag "episodes" of digital experiences can be acquired shows promise.

Too often people get thrilled by a single innovation rather than see it in light of a foundation for an entirely unique experience. Of course, that means that everyone along the food chain has to think different, que no? Tags need to trigger new User Experiences, not deliver the same old, same old, if they are going to capture the heart and soul of the Masses.
