Ok maybe not all, just some.
I will either never work in this town again or people will agree with me and support this movement. I started this business because I thought there was tremendous waste in the advertising and marketing world.
There is.
There are many great agencies and many smart, creative people who work for them.
Big is not evil, it’s just wasteful.
The technology in today’s marketing world has reduced the need for several moving parts without sacrificing world class work.
The trouble is, if I work with an agency with 500 people I need to feed the beast at all costs. And if the beast lives on Madison Ave, I have to feed the beast T-Bones.
In most cases, small agencies all around the world can ideate and create world class work at a fraction of the cost of a big agency.
In an economy like ours today, I still watch CMO’s and marketing managers waste millions with agencies just because it’s the way they have always done things in the past. It makes me crazy.
Hey, we work with some of the biggest brands in the world so dont’ worry…I am not bitter.
Cut to the chase.
Remember when the CEOs of GM, Ford and Chrysler answered the question about how they traveled from Detroit to the meeting? They said they each flew on private jets. Everyone’s jaws dropped as they thought ‘oh no they didn’t.’
That’s how I feel when I watch the money CMO’s are still spending frivolously on crazy self interest sponsorships with back slapping and autographed pictures.
We all need a reality check. Even if it’s just until we get out feet back on the ground.
There will be a time for private jets and big parties again -I hope so because that’s good clean livin’, but not yet. Lets do scrappy for a while.
